Bringing Christmas Cheer - 12th December 2022

Yesterday Hazel, Peter and Keith packed 25 bags of food, 1 bag of toiletries and 3 boxes full of Christmas goodies. These were all delivered this morning to the Town Hall in Zurgena.

Many thanks to everyone who has donated food and money from our Church, friends of the Church and CATS in La Alfoquia.

Lest We Forget - 13th November 2022

Both Llanos del Peral Church and Mojacar Church held special services for Remembrance Sunday - marking the memory of those lost in the fight for peace. The Mojacar service was a joint Act of Remembrance with the local Royal British Legion at the Open Air Church. The Llanos service saw the arrival of the Knights Templar to honour one of their recently departed commanders. Across both churches the two minutes silence was deeply felt for those who have given their lives so we can live in peace.

Posh Picnic - 28th October 2022

This beautiful October afternoon 40 of us across the 3 churches came together for the Chaplaincy’s Posh Picnic. The very pretty Llanos del Peral Picnic site set the scene for the fellowship event which included cava & canapés, an impressive spread of mains & desserts and a fun team quiz. The event raised 419 euros for Chaplaincy funds. A massive thank you to everyone who helped on the day, especially those who worked to provide such wonderful food. Of course a particular thank you must go to Dawn for organising the event.

Coffee with Friends - 18th October 2022

A beautiful day brought a good attendance at the coffee morning held at Jasmine's house. Together with a hard-working band of helpers, 408 euros was raised for Chaplaincy funds. This included money taken on the day plus donations.

Many thanks to all who attended or supported in any way.

For the love of animals – 2nd October 2022

Today was such a special day as 7 new families joined us to celebrate our Service of Thanksgiving and Blessing for our Pets. We had 6 dogs who enjoyed a personal blessing from Father Alan and numerous photos of cats and other pets. Our own church cat, Catolic, arrived with tail up, but beat a hasty retreat at the sight of our canine friends. The photos start with our most senior pet, Pedro, at 16 years. The Peace and Joy of our Lord be with you all and your pets!!

A time for Prayer & Reflection - 13th September 2022

The British community here really did our late gracious Queen Elizabeth proud today. Father Victor offered us the Open Air Church in Mojacar for a time of Prayer and Reflection. One hundred and ten people came to pay their respects, with people queuing to sign the Books of Condolences. It was a wonderful time to just sit quietly together with our memories about our faithful servant The Queen.

We are so grateful to Father Victor for making this gathering possible and for the Mayor, Rosa Maria Cano, the Chief of Police and British Councillor Lucus Mayo, for coming to join with us. We ended with a rousing "God Save our Gracious King", which brought some to tears. More photos and videos can be seen HERE

Giving the next generation a run for their money!

Richard giving the 250€ donation to the Director of the Primary School in Zurgena this morning. It will be used for physical education equipment.

Turre Evangelical Church Food Bank - 4th September 2022

Pam Carter and David Devonport took donations and refreshment income of €135 along with our weekly food collection to the food bank, run by the Evangelical Church in Turre.

There is now greater need for this wonderful resource as the Food Bank in Turre, run by the local council, has closed because of a lack of volunteers to run it. This means the food bank we support now has over 90 families relying on them.

We intend to join with them in their Christmas Gift Box scheme for children in refugee camps in Africa. We were told of one little boy’s joy when he found a pencil in his box. This puts a new dimension to what English children receive at Christmas. Further details will be given when we have them.

Giving Back - 28th August 2022

After church, the congregation at Llanos del Peral meet for a coffee and piece of cake. This is free to all but a €1 per person donation is asked for. The money raised from tea and coffees is donated every few months to local charities and food banks. Over the last 12 months €800 has been donated and the funds put to good use. Among those benefiting are Alzheimer Spain, Cancer Research Spain, Age Support Almanzora and the Zurgena Food Bank.

Help in a time of need - 9th June 2022

On Sunday we heard news of a local man whose home had been destroyed by two gas bottles, which exploded. His situation is awful. As a church, we will try to help where we can and yesterday Keith & Peter took Pat 100€ to try and ease his situation.  He is so much in our prayers, and we all hope to be able to support him and meet some of his many needs.

The money came from the proceeds of the Church BBQ on the 25th June to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. So thank you to all who gave so freely.
